ANTONIO G. M. LA VIÑA is a recognized lawyer, educator and environmental policy expert. He is the dean of the Ateneo School of Government, Ateneo de Manila University since 2006 and senior fellow on Climate Change at the Manila Observatory. He is also adjunct professor at the Ateneo School of Government, Ateneo School of Law, University of the Philippines College of Law, De La Salle College of Law, and Philippine Judicial Academy. He served as undersecretary for Legal and Legislative Affairs and Attached Agencies at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) from 1996 to 1998. He was a senior fellow in Institutions and Governance Program of the World Resources Institute in Washington DC, USA (2001 – 2006);  facilitator, Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (also known as REDD plus) negotiations under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), 2009-2011; co-chair, Technical Working Group on the Environmental Rules of Court, April 2009-April 2010, Supreme Court; vice-president and rapporteur, Bureau of the Conference of the Parties of Framework Convention on Climate Change, 1996-97; chairman, Philippines Inter-Agency Committee for Climate Change (IACCC), 1996-1998. He also holds important positions in several international policy bodies and has authored numerous publications.
