ARMM launches 'Functional Barangay 3 Months Challenge'

The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) has launched a competition in Basilan province to encourage the village officials to be functional.
Interior and Local Government Provincial Director Abou Mohammad Asmawil, led the launching of the competition on Friday dubbed as the “Functional Barangay Three Months Challenge.”
Asmawil said those involve in the competition are the 55 of the 210 villages in Basilan province that have received projects this year from ARMM-Helps (Health, Education, Livelihood, Peace and Synergy).
ARMM-Helps Coordinator Bimbo Epping said the infrastructure projects the 55 villages have received included barangay halls.
“The many projects implemented by the Regional Government will be put to waste if the village council is not functional,” Asmawil stressed.
The competition is a joint undertaking of the DILG-ARMM, ARMM-Helps, Department of Agriculture and Fisheries-Aarmm (DAF-ARMM)and Armm-Bangsamoro Regional Inclusive Development for Growth and Equity.
The winners of the competition will receive P10 million worth of projects from the Office of the Regional Governor.
The winners will be known on February 18, 2017, exactly three months from the date the competition was launched.
Asmawil said they have tapped the different sectors, including the military and the police, to help them monitor the villages if they are functional.
Asmawil said they will identify another 30 villages to consist of the 2017 participants of the competition.
